Thursday October 21st
Working putting drainage & tinting roads on large 4 sheet map for Col. C.H. Mitchell Gen. Leckie sends letter - of - recommendation over by dispatch rider. - Lieut. Vernon promises to get Col. Mitchell to act. Despatch dated 7.7 pm 20th Oct from Field Marshal Sir John French: "The enemys attack yesterday afternoon was made against our front from the Quarries to Hulluch- after a heavy bombardment of our trenches the hostile infantry attempted to attack across open ground , but was completely stopped by our combined artillery. M.G. and rifle-fire. This was followed by a no. of bombing attacks in the neighborhood of the Hohenzollern Redoubt & Fosse No. 8. All these attacks were also repulsed Canadian Front: Our artillery today bombarded two trench mortars near the Petite Douve from Hollandscheschur Farm N.18b salient
