I have the honour to recommend #442919 Serght D.W.Gillespie for honourable distinction on account of his marked bravery and devotion to duty while acting as Platoon Sergeant of #13 Platoon when his platoon was engaged in digging an assembly trench in front of 29th Bn frontage on night of 11/12 Sept instant. He was killed while supervising and assisting his men +his last words were " Carry on boys, the work must be finished" thereby setting a magnificent example to Others.
