Thurs 7 Sept Cool & pleasant. Marched at 9:30 to brickyard nr Albert. Sighted infamous church with horizontal statue of Virgin a left by German shell. Saw Gordon Mogg with 7th Bn. Heard that Rupert Howard killed last night with 16th.

Frid 8 Sept Had a good sleep in our open air bivouac. No shells near camp. Went into Albert in am & there saw Hart now in 16th Bn & heard about Howard & the bad time his Bn had in front. Did not see James. In pm took out working party of 100 men with Bridgman to Pozieres. V. interesting old trench full of relics.

Sat'dy 9th Fog & then sun. Had bathe in lovely pond washed clothes. Major Graham & Bridgman. Then on to 1st Divn H.Q. in Albert & dined & wined with Willie Langley Bobbie Roberts & Tennant. Major (Carson) Scott's & majors. Had a long talk with Morkill of 7th Bn who lost his O.C. Co.
