My dear Mother
As this is your birthday I am naturally wishing you many happy returns of the day and that if may only be a short time now before we meet again. Thank you for the face cloths which are always useful and always beautifully made. We shall soon be living amongst Germans so we are all trying to rub up our knowledge of German. With much love from your affectionate second son
Arthur
