Oct 4. At 7 am. our men began to straggle back through the [illegible] Brickfields - I walked with Meredith , Major Graham & Major Latta who was in command of Bn this trip - Felt absolutely played out - Shall never forget drink of something hot at Chaplains Service's dugout near Bailiff's Wood - How we got to Brickfields I don't know for it was raining & the mud was awful. However we got there & after some hot food we almost immediately marched to Wanlog. I had a horse as O.C. C co . Andrews having gone and in very bad shape with fever (maltese) & Ross having gone to a rest hospital badly done up. Met several SS men on the road - Fell asleep on horse several times.
