July 22 1917
Dearest Mother
I wrote you a letter a week ago, down at our Squadron Office and a couple of days ago discovered that it had not been posted, through some oversight on the part of the office staff. You may be sure I 'strafed' the sergeant in charge, for, though I am in a position to do that, I am only a junior subaltern and have little time to write letters.
