Camp Rathbun Deseronto
July 22 1917
Dearest Mother
I wrote you a letter a week ago, down at our Squadron Office and a couple of days ago discovered that it had not been posted, through some oversight on the part of the office staff. You may be sure I 'strafed' the sergeant in charge, for, though I am in a position to do that, I am only a junior subaltern and have little time to write letters. Though I don't do a great deal of actual work, I have to be on the job, keeping the cadets flying and telling them their mistakes and how to correct them.
First of all I must tell you of my whereabouts. We are at one of the camps near the the town of Deseronto, which you doubtless can locate. I am one of two 2 Lieuts. in no. 86 Canadian Training Squadron. The other of my rank is also
with this and will inclose something that came yesterday from [illegible]. If you write to the boy tell him to stick to the instructions. [Illegible] he is so like the others recruits to get overseas - I am all alone. have let Katie go for a few holidays, will be back in Nov I am [illegible]
