of the Austrian province of Bosnia. While driving through the streets of the town, a bomb was thrown at their carriage. The Arch-duke with admirable presence of mind warded it off with his arm. The bomb fell to the street & exploded. The Arch-duke and his wife fortunately escaped un-hurt, only to fall victims to a more successful attempt upon their lives within half an hour later. A young Servian sympathiser succeeded in shooting & mortally wounding both the Arch-duke & his wife, who died shortly afterwards in the hospital to which they had been driven. Thus the long standing strained relations
