-Am to be Transferred to the Imperials Get some war post cards at a little Estaminet, Rue[?] de l'Occident - Givencky[?] + messines - these views shake me all to pieces - am nearly chucking up my job + asking the Colonel to send me back to the Trenches. Cant stand this drafting much longer. Yesterday got a run down to Bn Transport - Find my stripes get for me far different Treatment from the Coy[?] QM - He is almost obsequious [?] - queer place this army with all iTs cringing and fawning[?] before superiors. Was talking with McDonald of the time he+ I[?] were sent to dig a CT. to the captured Boche[?] trench at Richebourg L'avoue[?] - How we waded in mud knee-deep + had to lie in the long grass, two hours, because the Germans were 'wise' to us, + were continually sending up flares + rapid-fire I was chilled to the bone as I had no greatcoat. That was the night we couldn't get the Trench down[?] on account of water + the buried Boche dead of Autumn 1914 - Ugh!!
