Battalion drill & review before Gen. Babington & McDougall. First Canadian to have their buttons polished. Ranks were steady. Guiney wants to know where they keep King George; want to chaw the rag with him. Too much ceromonial & elaborate parade evolution. Canada represented by two bloated muskrats sitting on water lily pads eating black beetles & a cross mink labelled "skunk". Early British implements & weapons interesting . Little boy sings on barrack room table"It's a long wye to Tipperary" for coppers. Some of the refuse of the of the First Contingent arrive from Salisbury | + | |
