Last Sunday Florence & I went up to Hampton Court, one of Henry VIII's old stomping grounds I believe. The grounds round the place are still beautifully kept in spite of the shortage of labour, the flower beds bordering the walks were just a mass of colour. Florence took me to see an old grape vine that was planted there over 150 years ago. It is a tremendous size & was simply laden with bunches of fruit. Round the base of the vine I think it measured over 4 feet in circumference. We had lunch at a very fashionable place beside the river & we spent a very peaceful afternoon watching people boating & punting on the river! If we had had more time we would have taken a punt ourselves, but I had to leave early to make it worthwhile
