339 1917 31 Days 5 WEDNESDAY [339-26] December Copy of Letter re Survey x./17/666# Ordnance Survey Office Southampton #12/17 The Commandant Chapperton Down Artillery School Salisbury I understand that a Telephone message was received from you at this office this afternoon, enquiring why the Survey Section was recently removed from Salisbury Plain. I have to inform you that the Section was removed by my orders to enable me to ascertain by personal investigation what grounds existed for your complaint, transmitted by DMI., that their work was not satisfactorily carried out. The computation and investigation are well in hand, and as far as can be seen at present. The work is of a high degree of accuracy. The complete examination will take some days more. It is not intended to send the section back to the Plain unless new services are required. If it is desired to have new positions fixed, or any other new services undertaken I should be glad if you would be so good as to write direct to this office, and specify exactly what is wanted, in order that there may be no misunderstanding. On receipt of such a letter arrangements would, if possible, be made to carry out your wishes. Sgd, C.F. Close Colonel Director-General of the Ordnance Survey Capt Cree To See E.M. Lt Col.
