July 31. Very hot.

Aug 1. Div. moved 1 mile to Cavillou - better quarters. Tank demonstration with Inf. Heavy rain at night.

Aug 2. Heavy rain till noon - Cont'd wet for a few days.

4 Sund. Rain & fine. leave beginning.

5. Divn moved up. Hqrs to CAGNY just south of AMIENS. Pouring with rain - In tents - saw Capt Heb Gillespie attch'd 14th Bde C & A ( Col. Buff Ogilvie) dropped in at Cagny.

6. Pouring. Everyone busy except myself.

7. l Traffic crowded with tanks, cavalry, all kinds of transport & infantry - Div HQ moved forward. V. fine - At night in the PLACE outside our Chan at Cagny in the pitch dark - the various cavalry Hqrs rendezvous before advancing . Could just make out the pennons of the Hqrs & the shapes of wounded officers . Hardly any sound except the changing of bits & the stamping of an occasional horse, iron shoe on pave.

8. The great attack in front of AMIENS began. For the first time, Australia & Canada worked together in full corps - Moved our rear Div hqrs backward & forwards & eventually rested at La Boutillerie Chan. close by (It belonged to an Englishman)
