Apl 1. Fine. Reconnoitering front line wh. now definitely located. The enemy having been stopped.

2. Bn moved into the line at Uercatel, S of Neville Vitasse. I went with it as far as half for evening meal at Bharmont Mille near Blairville - On the way we sighted Mt St Eloi on [illegible] beau & ARRAS on port bow so knew pretty well where we were. Relieved 24th Bn. Rec'd reinforcement of 1oq OR. Detail Camp at Bailleulval.

3. Haig sent reinforcements into the line - Bridgeman & I walked to BnH.Q. & found it in sunken road without other protection - Joe & I had a 7 mile ride & then a 9 mile walk. Came in for some shelling. I had a touch of grippe wh. made it hard going.

4. Rain. Maj. Maclean reported in.

5. During night rec'd notice to be ready to move at 15 mins (a strong attack by enemy expected). Much rain wh. cleared out by morning. Got wagons packed - A. Co had all offrs in front line casualties of whom Reade was killed - all by one shell (they had come together after the strike to compare notes, when the shell landed on them). A.Co. lost all sergts but 2. 53 shells (H.V.) landed in Bailleulval & warmed us up - but no cas. this Bn
