1917

July 12. Rode to Butter Grenay with Major Latta. Had tea at Offrs club (?) & on to Bouvigny Bayeffles & their home.

13. Rode into Aupres with Major Latta by Augny Corner & up Soushy Valley & saw of our old trenches & out post of last winter now all falling in & being overgrown. Our own guns very noisy & [intelligible] bother horses. Bn again moved over to the left.

14. [intelligible] - prosecuted as usual.

16. Prepare for Bn to come and to [intelligible]

17. Shelling of our billets in [intelligible] too much for comfort so Bn moved to Bouvigny de Divouace under the base in the [intelligible].

19. Walked up over Louethe Spur by the avenue of young Canadian maples leading along the crest. Found in an old French bauch in the Maestra Line the remains of the shrine of John Dawe de Lorethe [?]. [intelligible] Groupe de Sainte Famille . Memorial de la Santa Casa de Lorette [intelligible] de gloire & du protection pour vos vaillants soldats. [intelligible] pour nous. A burst & lathered Frauch rifle stands on the left of the little shrine.
