My H.Q. was alongside a derelict tank on the ridge near the windmill who seemed to draw all the fire of the enemy guns - a very hot spot - I had a miraculous escape - Sgt [Iverest] killed. D McKinley seriously wounded - Some rain. Twisted my ankle coming home by stepping on a Mills Grenade but the fall saved my life from a shell burst. - 596 prisoners & 12 offrs on this Bde front - Cavalry up. Good mail- Saw an observn balloon burnt.

16' Sept. Stayed in Bde reserve till 4 pm when we moved out to Brickfields (Albert) where we recd a royal welcome. The C.O. spoke to me very kindly. (the orders to go out were a great relief to the Bn because there were rumours that the remains of our Bde were to be made into a composite Bn & thrown into the attack. They were a great relief
