Wed 27 Co not get there till about 10 pm. Lt Adams worn out so in sole command. Very warm & nice. Beat off an attack. Many casualties from heavy shelling. Very lights + M.G.

Thursd 28 In the trenches still. Shelling not so severe. Enemy retreated 4 kilo & our Divn advanced.

Returned to Sunken Valley at midnight without casualty but v. tired. Grand welcome home. Found that I had been reported as killed & my kit sent down accordingly.

Frid 29 Grand sleep. Treated like a prince. Wet and horrible.

Sat 30. Fine. Thiepval taken yest'dy & line consold'd N. of Combles.

Tordiffe recommended for Mil X wh. was granted to Bogrehivich & Victor (SB).
