Wed July 26 Began a course of ins on Lewis autmc rifles with or offrs of 88th warned for overseas.

Frid 28 Very hot. Went for a row in eveg on Hythe canal with Bridgman & Albrightson (Mil. X).

Satd 29 Cricket match at Hythe. Zep raid Yorkshire & Norfolk. Airplane raid on Folkestone. Saw our squadron in chase.

Sun 30 Joe & I walked to Lyminge & took train to Canterbury. Service at Cathedral in choir v. fine. Had lunch & loafed abt Cath'l. Then walked down Watling St to Barham. All pubs full of soldiers. Very hot. Took train to Lyminge. Got grub & finished walk in dark. V. pleasant day.

Mon 31 Practice Divn'l review at Sir John Moore's plain. 16 Bns artillery & cavalry splendid sight but terribly hot. Joe & I walked down to beach at Hythe in eveg. Hear that we are to go on [illegible].
