Sund July 9 Perfect June day. Still no orders. Free & easy camp. Baird left yesterday for 2nd CMR. Bridgman walked to Lympne Church & enjoyed service v. much. Letter writing. Sent keys to Jess. In evening walked down to village with Bridgman for tea. Zep alarm in pm. All soldiers kept in tents & people in houses. Apparently they only got to Dover.

In pm Bridgman Morkill & I went for a walk by Arlington. Beautiful evening. Arlington Ch exceptly fine, splendid tower esp west front fine stone carving. East window v good through modern. Choir stalls handsomely carved including under sides of seats. V. handsome altar cloth. Many signs of defacement & damage apparently by Puritan soldiers. Record of rectors since 1300 AD. Erasmus Rector in 1511.

Aeroplane raid over this District just before midnight. Heard noise of enemy craft but saw nothing.
