in the well deck - very stirring scene we having over 7000 on board. Headed out to sea at 21 knots sea calm.

Named with three others as orderly officers for the day under Capt Twigg. Altered platoon lines accdg to roll. On active duty all night going the rounds every hour. At 4pm practice general alarm.

Saturday 3 June My duty having ended at 8am slept till 11am. Battn. orderly room at noon adjd till 2pm.

After waiting 1 hour case in wh I was witness dismissed. Sea perfectly calm but still heavy fog. First day's run to noon today 480 miles. At times steamer stopped dead. Ice about but weather mild.

Recd wireless news of great naval battle of Jutland. Great losses both sides.
