However I can't expect any leave even for a day for about another 2 or 3 weeks unless I have to go over to France in which case I may get three days leave.

This is only what I expected when I left Victoria but others have been much disappointed.

As I am a musketry instructor as well as in charge of two platoons I may be here for several weeks yet. Where I say here I meant in this district for I expect to move to another camp where there are rifle ranges about Wednesday next.

There is a very strong belief in military circles that the war will be over in October & that is certainly will not survive another winter. There is also a strong feeling that the British forces in particular have established their superiority
