We are now beginning our march to the Rhine & shall probably spend our Christmas Day on the Rhine itself or on the other side.

The roadsides occasionally carry the huge mines left by the enemy which we have found and dug up & very formidable they look, about as big as a 12" shell but pointed at both ends.

I told you I think with what sober joy the news of the armistice was received by the Londoner proper and in what exuberant manner it was celebrated by the soldiers especially by the colonials. A great many foolish things were done as one might expect where so much liquor was consumed.
