I had lunch with General Burstall a day or two ago & after the meal he kept me for a long gossip over old times. It so happens that I am billeted near Div Hqrs just now & in fact I must run over there in a few minutes. The Boche is bursting some H.E shrapnel high over head just now but I think it is a bad shot for one of our balloons. The American officers are funny looking chaps but they look as if they had brains. I expect that they will adjust themselves quickly and cleverly to the conditions of the war as they appreciate what they really are.

Be sensible my dear chap & be patient. God knows we want lots of patience over here. I confess to a shortage when I hear of Willie L. getting home.
