have been most keenly contested. Perhaps the keenest of all was a race in full marching order. A squad from each company is paraded & closely inspected by a committee of officers then they are marched about 100 yards empty their packs fill them up again fall in slope arms & march back to the starting point where they lay out their kits in the official manner. They get chief points for neatness cleanliness completeness & uniformity. The have to stand stock still during inspection in the boiling sun but still they were keen & there is more heart burning & discussion
