My dear brother

You will have seen in the paper even by now what the Canadians did on 9th 10th & 11th of this month. Our Bn did splendidly all that was asked of it and more even beyond the programme. They themselves advanced 4000 yds & their casualties were light which speaks well for training & discipline. They did not take many prisoners but they got 6 big guns to say nothing of trench mortars & machine guns.

The German in an official document show they were expecting an attack for they say the British are concentrating troops behind Vimy and as they are putting Canadians there who are good fighting men an attack may be expected. If possible I will send you the document. Though they were expecting us the manner & the energy of the attack surprised them which accounts for our capture of artillery & senior artillery officers.
