I am useful enough to be needed at present.

Your last two letters have been particularly interesting. The account of your motor trip to Alberta and your references to the vigorous efforts being made to formulate a war policy for Canada.

Poor Monks was killed on the day you were at the Chalet. He used to be a sergeant in the 88h & was doing well here. Though mortally wounded he would not allow anyone to stop and look after him while the fighting was on & after that he was no longer in need of assistance.

The guns are playing a lovely tune just now & the sky is full of fireworks but it is very hard to make out what is going on.

I am afraid I am very dull so good night.

Much love to all

Your affectionate brother

Arthur
