The paper says that 2 officers were killed but knowing what the work was it appears to me that our casualties were very light. The artillery must have done very good work to make it possible.

The work at the school gets more & more interesting. Today we had an extensive defence scheme & only 1½ hrs to work it out including reconnaissance.

That is quite impossible so one does what one can. We make little syndicates of 4 comprising a Bn Commd Adjt + 2 other staff officers.

In all the schemes they have done me the honour to elect me O.C. but I am afraid
