The sketch of a dugout which I sent Nell was done at Scottishwood a famous place in the famous salient.

The tree indicated behind the dugout (or really bomb proof) was cut off by a shell so cleanly that the top fell straight down. Four officers were killed I believe in this dugout & whole neighbourhood is terribly battle scarred. The fighting seems to have passed backwards & forwards over this ground since the early days of the war & it is still warmly shelled.

By the way address me as of my present Battn [illegible] Canadians BEF c/o Army P.O. London & tell everyone else so - the Land & Water &Punch find me at irregular intervals but are eagerly read when they arrive .
