England has welcomed us most enthusiastically so far as the people are concerned but if it had not been for 69th I don't know what we should have done last night - arriving at a strange unfurnished camp in the dark.

By the way the sleeping bag that Hugo gave me was just the dead thing & saved my hide, so to speak, last night.

We are all given C.B. for 3 days until medical inspection & I am orderly officer tomorrow Saturday.

We can easily reach Folkestone & Hythe from here but I don't know if it is worth while. We hear that we are only to have three days leave. In that case I doubt it I shall see Carleton. Some of the Battns are being hurried to the front very quickly after arriving as there is considerable
