No 4 London General Hospital

Germany declares war on Roumania. Roumanians & Austrians in contact in Rotenturm & Predeal Passes, Transylvania Alps. Austrians withdraw south of Kronstadt - Austrian monitors bombard Turnu Severen, Giugers & other Roumanian towns on the Danube.

August 29 - Austrian retreat before Rumanian advance; they admit occupation of Petroseny, Kronstadt, and Kezdi Vasarhely. General Lechitsky capture Mount Pantyr, 16 miles north-west of the Jablonia Pass. Fall of Falkenhayn; Marshal Hindenburg appointed chief of Gernam General Staff, and General Ludendorff Chief Quarter-Master-General. Prisoners captured in British offensive since July 1: 266 Officers and 15,203 men, with 86 guns and 160 machine guns.

August 30 - Turkey declares war on Rumania; Zeppelin bombards Bukarest; Russian troops reported in Rumania. Russian progress near Jablonica Pass in the Carpathians. Enemy attempts to advance near Guillemont defeated.

Completion of two months' battle of the Somme; Germans driven well south of the Central Railway in East Africa; British warships have bombarded the coast near Dar-es-Salaam.
