6137 casualties in the ranks. British within 1000 yds of Thiepval; they establish themselves outside Mouquet Fram, and penetrate into Guillemont. French progress north of Somme near Clery and SW of Estrees.

French success north of Mourpas. Russians at Mt. Howerla, south of the Jablonica Pass. Russian offensive west of Lake Van. Italian success in the Dolomites, Serbian offensive progress in the Moglena section. Capt. van Deventer captures Kilossa.

Russians re-capture Mush; they defeat the Turks at Rayat near the Turco-Persian frontier and take 2300 prisoners. British gain another 200 yds of German trench south of Thiepval. Zeppelin raid on East coast; casualties.
