With Murphy - call on Landsdowne to No 3 London General at - to see N.Z. wounded - old hospital with tin hut extension - officers crowded. bad time getting home - on verge of fainting. Evening in park near Herne Hill.

Another bad day. Zeppelin raid.

Diary of the War

August 1. French tak a German trench between Estrees and Belloy-en-Santerre; they capture strongly fortified work between Hem and Monacu Farm. German attack at Verdun west and south of Thiaumont work repulsed; French counter offensive launched.

August 2. French successes at Verdun south of Fleury; German trenches carried and 800 prisoners taken.
