I 1 1916 29 Days 3 Thursday (34-332) (3 to 6) February 4h 6m P.M. (Greenwich) On Duty in PT. Cell nearly all day, sleeping here tonight. Wild stormy day, driving rain squalls - spray dashing over cliff tops. Receive letter from Surveyor-General with list of surveyors on active service - 90 in all Start reading Tolstoi's 'Anna Karenina' Can't settle down to study yet at all.

4 Friday (35-331)

Off duty today - Go down to W. B. Howe with Lt. Williams and afterwards walk to [Hale?] - Message today 'The undermentioned officers selected to attend class of instruction in catering on 8th - 9th February at Manchester ---- Bill - South Hook - 9 days (sent cheque 5th) 9 days@ 4/9 wine 9 Mainten. 4/6 guests 6 Newspapers cards etc. 1.0

Fine sunny day turning stormy at nightfall - Dozen trawlers pass at 'Official night' In P.F. Cell all day - much trouble with various phones all day. News of burning of Dominion Parliament Buildings reaches us.

6 Sunday - 5 aft Epiph (37-329)

Morning walk along cliffs to 'Bath' at West Dale. Afternoon cross country to Marloes & out to Deer Park (opposite [Skomerld?]. Interesting talk with 2 old Coastguardmen 17 mile altogether
