Sunday - October 31st

Worked from 8am. to 9pm, with 1 1/2 hrs for meals - New trench maps to be rushed out. Wet disagreeable day. Canadian Dispatch from Ottawa states "Canada today responded to the King's appeal for more men. The Government decided to increase the overseas force by 100, 000 men. The forces now serving overseas amount to 101, 900 and those under training in Canada to 71, 500. The forces actually authorized up to July las numbered 150, 000, so that with today's increase the total of Canadian troops is a quarter of a million Canadian Front Our artillery was very active yesterday & in the artillery dual which took place we succeeded in establishing a superiority over the enemy. Two shells hit the enemy's trench
