Muster parade of whole battalion taking up whole morning. More useless red tape. "Take up a position" in afternoon from which we couldn't see ahead. Pretty thoroughly disgusted with everything today.

Field day - conducted mysterious operations near Saltwood castle, involving 4 hours lying in a sunken road. Filled in the time conversation taking its usual trend.

Quarantine becoming very irksome and everybody cranky.

Shown German cartridge by adjutant with bullet reversed in case.

General clean up & barrack room inspection. On general fatigue picking up match ends & sweeping down the gutters. Moralizing on the general futility of military life.

News arrives of retaking of four 4.7 guns by the Canadians.
