Canterbury

28

April, 1915

Outpost work on top of downs, bayonet drill & lecture by lieutenant on outpost duties. 2½ hrs. night march by way of Hythe, beautiful night.

Church parade. Go to Canterbury in afternoon. Wonderful old buildings, narrow streets & built-in canal. Cathedral disappointment from the outside. Too much shut in. Country around beautifully wooded. Made trip with Walter Campbell.

Sanitary fatigue in morning, beastly work, should be reserved for defaulters. Museum & reference library in afternoon with Campbell & van Dyke. Dinner at Bath Hotel with Elliott's parents
