March 1915

Mess orderly dinner today with Elliott & brothers at "Grand" on the leas. Officers thicker than black flies.

Fortress of Przemyst falls to the Russians.

Route march to the Downs & a little skirmishing. Tucker & I sent out as flankers. Semaphore & platoon drill in the afternoon.

Route march & some manoevring, purport unknown, on the Downs, sent out with Guiney as connecting link with the scouts.

In the afternoon with 2 others pass aiming test, with a rifle fixed in a clamp on on a tripod, triangle of error about ⅛" side.

Kitchener speaks to workmen at Liverpool promising strong measures if they refuse overtime.

Route march past Hythe rifle ranges to three miles from Romney, Romney marshes now drained but cut by deep ditches behind the dyke. No 5 acts as advance guard, Goodrich & I as connecting files with the scouts. Drizzly foggy day.
