Aug 23.5. Received a threatening anonymous typewritten letter by this morning's post. It was in the language of an uneducated coward, and stated that if I did not write to a given address and take back some criticism I had made against somebody or some thing by Monday evening, I should be attacked, "in true German style,"from behind". A service was held in the English Church for the first time for two Sundays. Feeling against England is very bitter however on account of the action of Japan. Out to tea at Fal. [illegible] in p.m. at Meiers to dinner as usual.
