April 21st Still very heavy shelling going. Beautiful weather. Very busy all day. In afternoon C.S.M. Thornburrow & I walked to LIGNEROEIL via BERLENCOURT, DENIER & LIENCOURT. Sgt Major all in. Had a letter from Father.

April 22nd Sunday. A beautiful sunny day. Very busy. Went in H.Q. A most tremendous bombardment still going on with even greater intensity, which seems impossible. Saw Webb for a few seconds.

April 23 Bombardment still going on & even more gigantic than before. Very busy all day. Paid Lemache 25 Frs & Olivia Philly 26 Frs up to April 25th.

April 24 Very busy packing up for DUISANS. Had a card from M to say that Alfred was killed in action on April 11th. He visited me on April 7th. We had such a good time. Poor boy, he was a jolly good boy. Lt [illegible] takes lunch with me. A beautiful sunny day. Much less bombardment. Very busy packing up stores, tools, blankets, etc. Wrote MAR [illegible] C.O. gone on leave.
