tried on a new pair of brown Field Service boots - went to Capt. Williams billet - came back by train - had drink with Webb & then M. Le Maire came in before we had finished dinner - tight as an owl with a bottle of fine red wine - 15 - 20 years old - he stayed until 11-30 P.M. & was as tight as a Lord before he had finished - had a long letter from Mrs Herman also from Mrs & Mr Bryant - of Cousham.

Jan 3rd Walked with Sgt. Major ([illegible] to Lacs le Bois Denier & Berlencourt - placed Jerome & L/Cpl Cross under open arrest . Lieu Bennet A.L.C. came & had lunch with us - Bartlett my servant not well. Gave Mme Demoline 10 frs for kindness to us for use of Orderly room, her reply on opposite side. The cooks complain about Sgt Wren - gave them a severe dressing down.
