Dec 30th To l'Estaminet-Roussel - the men are called thieves by Jules - they tried to steal the chickens of the station mistress. We told the C.S.M. He comes down to the station & we find the whole story - nothing but a "canard" . The supposed theft was committed by some other soldiers who were stationed here about 10 months ago. Victor Beauchet claims 120 frs for his wood. Look out for Tuesday at 9 A.M. Counseil - 'ou je ne sais pas'

Jan 1st 1917 Had a most pleasant day - M le Maire asked Webb & I to have a bottle of wine with him. Had a letter from Mrs. Whisman also a parcel from Miss Crisp of cigarettes & chocolates etc also on Dec 24th London [illegible] & a nice long letter from H. [illegible].

Jan 2nd M. O. called & took me in the car to Magnicourt - saw young Kent - then to Beaufort - had tea with Colonel Moody G.B. Capt McMillan & J.M. after tea.
