told Corporal Malin to wash his face in onions & only wished that I could speak French as she would tell me what she thought of me.

Nov 1st Sent S/Cpl Haines to H.Q. He never came back that eve?

Nov 2 My birthday. Lieut Malin to Liencourt to hunt for S/Cpr Haines & found that he had spent the night at Beaufort. He had eaten so much that orders were issued that in future casual visitors were to carry 2 days rations with them.

Nov 7th Rain all day on Houvin Rd about a trench which had been dug across rough pasture land - grand row - amicably settled. To the mill at Wamin in evening with Corporal Malin - lovely moonlight night after the rain.

Nov 8th To the station about stone - different kinds
