myself leading the battalion a distance of 25 miles – we remained at Sutton Veney until sometime in Sept when its batt: proceeded overseas, myself being transferred to the 10th Duke of Cornwalls (Pioneers) Light Infantry & pending my transfer I was attached to the 1st D.C.L.I. at Warefrom for only four days which was quite enough - then my transfer was through & I proceeded to join the 10th D.C.L.I. at Hayle in Cornwall

Nov 1915 to Jan 1916

Recruiting for my batt: in Cornwall & going about from place to place as John Wesley and Martin Luther did of old - talking to every conceivable kind of person - in street and in the villages & in mines & on one occassion my Colonel (Colonel Mills) went with me into the bottom of Wheal Grenville mine about (illegible) fathoms deep in the mud cart & there beastley hot my dear old Colonel & I argued with at least 200
