On Active Service WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE Y.M.C.A.

532659, Pte. Jackson C.A.M.C. No 3. Canadian Gen. Hospital. A.P.O.3. B.E.F. France, Aug. 27th/17

Dear Mum.

Just a few lines in answer to your many. It seems to me that I have been receiving a lot of letters lately from you and have written none for a long time. You will be pleased to hear that Leo has been down here on rest for two weeks and is looking very well and perhaps a little more bored than usual. By great efforts on both our parts we managed to see each other about five times and then we had to defy that stern discipline which is considered so necessary for "other ranks" - by arm-chair military experts.
