Same afternoon

My darling Lola

Just a line to say we are off again tomorrow to the fighting line, but I think not to the same place where we were before that is too hot, the Germans have been trying to take it ever since we left and as they were unable to do so, yesterday they brought up the Prussian Guard to take it and they were cut to pieces.

This afternoon General French arrived here suddenly in the rain and congratulated the regiment on the splendid work they had done under very difficult circumstances, and made a very flattering and rousing speech.

Please write soon. You might look round and see if you can find one of those little muff warmer things they would be useful for winter.

Yours ever Lobby
