1st Can. Reserve Battn Seaford Sussex 18 apr 1917
My very dearest old Dodie,
Do you know this is the very first time in my life that I have to apologize to you. Up to the present it has always been you who apologizes, or if you didn't you ought to have done. While I really do apologize for receiving 2 letters from you and only writing one in return. however my letters are letters with lots of meat in them. I never worry you with a nine day prayer, when I received it this morning, I almost swore I couldn't marry you. However, I'll say no more, I'll leave you to guess whether I wish the terrible calamity on the 10th day or not. Of course, if you never hear from me more, you'll know that it was you, who finished me off by putting the same calamity in my way, and I escaped it. Why, you will be a blooming murdress, and my blood be upon your head, cccccccurrrrrse you!!
Fancy Irene sending you that. I wonder what she's doing now. Give me all the news, when you write her send her my love. She always was a favourite of mine.
I met [illegible] in the bar of the Royal Albion at Brighton about 2 months ago. He was very drunk and has 2 drinks, and the barmaid had to call him back as he was going out without paying for them - a curious lapse of memory
