I saw some influential Colonels I knew, & tried to ascertain my best move to make, but they told me that if the War Office knocked my name out they would certainly give us information as to the reason. Well I thought the reasons over & came to the conclusion that that cursed Staff course was at the bottom of it, that I was either being kept here for instructional purposes or a damned staff job here. The only other alternative was that the 2nd [?] as for which I had been warned, was full up, & my name had been knocked out, or that some pal of the powers that be had come along & wanted to get in at the last moment & some one's name had been chosen at random to be knocked off the list, mine was the unfortunate one. I then went to the Commandant of the Canadian Military School (where I took the Staff Course) & asked him if he knew why I had been cancelled, he said didn't. I then asked him if I was being held back for instructional work, because if so, I wasn't going to do it. I said I'd be cashiered first. He said they didn't want any more instructors that they had very strongly recommended me for field work.
I've had several days to think things over & I believe now that the reason was that the 2nd ChalR[?] had more than their 14 Supernumerary officers & I got knocked off through that.
