My Dear Dodie:

I am so sorry that I have been so long in answering your letter, but I have been very busy looking after the building of a new submarine, V.I., up at Barrow. I have been commissioned her and am down here doing trials. When we have finished them I shall have to return to the Bight (that puzzled you so much) which I am not at all looking forward to. You will probably think me an awful coward for saying that: but I find that after about a week over there, being chased by trawlers all day
