If you women saw the conditions of the people living here & heard the tales told of the [illegible] you would speak to no man who was simple and able to serve who has not gone to the front. They are not men, merely vermin. They will prosper on the prosperity bought at the expense of their fellow countrymen's lives. You women will forget it all & love them & pet them as if they had protected you -

Believe me old pal the French women don't have no use for the man who cannot die for her & damned rightly too.
