S. S. Winterton At Sea Feb. 27th 14. Sent from Port Said

My dearest Toby

So very sorry dear not to have got a letter off to you before, but since returning to England in December, have been continually on the go & very little spare time. I got somewhat tired of being at home, & after Father got better & could once more resume duties, I made up my mind to trot away again, much against their wishes, as they wanted me to stop at least over Xmas; & I never even sent you a few lines to wish you a merry Xmas! really am feeling very ashamed of myself; please old girl forgive an old sinner like myself. Your card from Bethlehem reached me, many thanks; after returning to Hull there didn't seem to be much doing so I took on a temporary job of running across to Rotterdam in a small passenger boat, I stuck that for a month, during which time I got your letter & the two photos enclosed, I do love them, they are perfectly splendid, many many thanks Toby, I have them now framed hanging up by my bunk, so I can see them all the time; I was so sorry to hear you had to be left there by yourself, & probably to go back to Vancouver. You however gave no address save S. Bethlehem & did not mention the people you were staying with, so I have of course to address this to Vancouver. Well, then after Xmas I fell in for this packet, she's a fine new cargo steamer, & I am thankful to say am very comfortable.
